Inside Line Promotions - OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 6, 2013) - Blake Hahn took advantage of valuable seat time at a pair of big tracks in Iowa.
Hahn made his debut at the 23rd annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals on Friday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where a loose car slowed him during ever-important qualifying.
"We were a little off on the setup so we were a little loose," he said. "I was good getting in, but in the middle of the corner I'd break loose."
Hahn qualified 53rd quickest. Since only the top 50 in qualifying advanced to the heat races, Hahn was relegated to start 13th in the C Main.
"It was definitely better," he said after advancing to eighth place. "I think every time I got out there I learned more stuff. The more laps I got the better I got."
After the points were tabulated from the preliminary nights, Hahn started 14th in the E Main on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. He powered to a ninth-place finish to earn a transfer to the D Main, but was unable to start that race because of engine issues.
"It was way better and I was more comfortable with the track," he said. "I knew I had to get up on the gas. But on the last lap it puffed smoke and then I killed it. We transferred to the D Main, but I didn't start because the motor was hurt."
The team then tackled Southern Iowa Speedway on Monday for the Front Row Challenge. With 51 cars competing in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event, Hahn started fourth in his heat race.
"I had a really good feeling going into the night," he said. "We got a pretty good start and was running third and then another motor started slowing down with three laps to go. I think Brandon Wimmer got by us coming to the white flag."
Hahn placed fourth in the heat race and was set to start fourth in a B Main, which transferred the top four to the feature. However, he elected to scratch for the night to not further damage the engine.
Hahn is scheduled to take this weekend off before returning to the track on Friday, Aug. 15, at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, Okla., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
