Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (March 4, 2014) – Blake Hahn’s inaugural campaign on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour started on a positive note last weekend.
Hahn scored a pair of top 20s during the Cocopah Cup Challenge at Cocopah Speedway to open the season.
“It was pretty successful,” he said. “We made the A Feature both nights. I would have liked to finish top 10 both nights, but us being able to make the A Features was good.”
After finishing second in his heat race during Friday’s season opener, Hahn earned enough points to advance directly to the main event. He started on the outside of the sixth row, but quickly ran into an issue.
“I didn’t really have a lot of brakes,” he said. “I couldn’t stick it on the bottom like I needed to. I just hung on most of the race.”
Hahn rallied to score a 17th-place result.
He returned to the 3/8-mile track on Saturday, when the program was delayed approximately three hours because of a persistent rain storm.
“On Saturday I wish we could have got a better pill draw,” he said. “We had quite a few fast guys in our heat race. The track was really, really tacky and fast.”
Hahn advanced from sixth to fifth place in his heat race, which lined him up fifth in a B Main. He quickly rallied into one of the three transfer positions and ended with a runner-up finish.
“We tried something different and it was pretty good,” he said. “That was probably the best the car was all weekend.”
Hahn continued to improve throughout the 30-lap main event as he maneuvered from 20th to a 13th-place result.
“We tightened it up quite a bit,” he said. “Earlier it was better on the bottom. Once it blew off coming out of turn four I went to the top.”
Hahn will return to action on March 14 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and March 15 at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
