Bryan Hulbert – ALGER, Wash. (June 26, 2019) Blake Hahn had a lot of things to be happy about in regards to his performance at the 48th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by the Skagit Casino/Resort.

While his lead in Saturday’s A-Feature and potential win came up shy due to a mistake in lapped traffic, the victory in Thursday’s preliminary A-Feature, followed by a runner-up in Saturday’s program all added to the bigger picture as Hahn goes into the Fred Brownfield Classic with series point’s leader.

“I wanted that win so bad, and I knew I had the car to do it. I just messed up and got impatient. I’m kicking myself about it, but in the big picture, we had a great weekend. We’ve had speed, and we’ve had wins over the last couple years, just not on the National Tour, and that’s what we’ve been lacking so to get the win Thursday and have everything work out the way it did, I’m really happy with where our team is at,” commented Hahn .

Topping Thursday’s opener, the win is Hahn’s first at the Skagit Speedway and broke a 108 race winless streak in National Tour competition.

“That win was everything for our weekend. It worked out that Matt [Covington] showed us a nose and showed me where the line was, so I was able to get down and protect the lead. If that had happened in traffic, we would have run second. I was surprised the track went the way it did as fast as it did, and I was doing everything I could to save tires until our last restart. The car felt good and they weren’t shaking, so I just let it rip.”

Tangling with Garen Linder the following night racing for 10th, Hahn received damage but was able to return and run to an 11th place finish. Still able to put the Sage Fruit, Co. No. 52 on the right of the front row, Hahn led until lap 13 before contact with Greg Hamilton sent Blake around. Not stopping, Hahn restarted fifth and ran back to second; missing the win by three-tenths of a second.

“If I could have cleared the slower car that was racing with us on that last restart, I think I could have had something for Robbie, but to come back like we did after messing up, I was happy with the run after I just sat and thought about it. Still sucks to miss it like that, but to see Robbie get his first win at a race like Dirt Cup was pretty cool.”

Next for the team is the Fred Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29 in Elma, Wash.

The 2019 season is Blake Hahn’s 17th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars.
